RefWorks - if the conversion doesn't work

What to do if the RefWorks account conversion goes wrong.

Sometimes converting a RefWorks account to use the Network ID results not in an account conversion, but in the creation of a new account. If this happens to you, you can get the references from your current/old RefWorks account and restore them to the new account that was created. To do so:

  1. Access RefWorks using this link (from on-campus only).
  2. Log in using your "old" RefWorks account information.
  3. From either the Tools or the References menu select Backup/Restore.
  4. Click Perform Backup.
  5. Save the file.
  6. Log out of RefWorks.
  7. Access RefWorks using this link.
  8. From either the Tools or the References menu select Backup/Restore.
  9. Select the Restore option.
  10. Browse to the back-up file you created in Step 5.
  11. Select Include References, Include Output Styles and Include RSS Feeds.
  12. Click Perform Restore.
