How to save RefWorks references for use after leaving Lafayette

Individual RefWorks accounts are no longer accessible after you graduate or cease working at Lafayette College. However, references from RefWorks accounts can be saved, and the saved file can later be imported back into RefWorks at another academic institution, into another subscription bibliographic management program like EndNote, or into an open-source program like Zotero. Follow these steps to save your RefWorks references:

* Connect to RefWorks and log-in to your account
* From the References or Tools menu, select Export
* Select either All References or a specific Folder
* Under Export Format, choose Bibliographic Software
* Click Export to Text File
* From the File menu, select Save As and save the .txt file to your preferred location

If you will not have access to RefWorks or another subscription bibliographic management program after you leave Lafayette, you can download Zotero, a free Firefox extension that helps you collect, manage, and cite your research sources directly from your web browser. Once you have downloaded Zotero and launched it in your web browser, follow these steps to import your references:

* From the Actions icon, select Import
* Browse to the saved .txt file on your computer and click Open
