Digital Scholarship Services (DSS) Assistant Opportunities
DSS offers a number of student worker opportunities each academic year in such areas as digitization, geospatial technologies, and visual resources curation.
Data Associates Program
DSS partners with the Data Associates Program to provide drop-in hours and coworking sessions in Skillman Library for students working on data analysis skills, projects, and course work.
Digital Humanities Idea Incubator
The Digital Humanities Idea Incubator is a workshop series focused on introducing students interested in DH scholarship to: the research process, the field of Digital Humanities, the practices of digital scholarship, data concepts, and writing research proposals and pitches.
Digital Humanities Summer Scholars
The Digital Humanities Summer Scholars (DHSS) Program is a six-week seminar with a minimum of 200 hours of work required. Funded through the Lafayette Libraries, it offers a $3,000 stipend for the program’s duration. Candidates may be from any class year, as long as they are enrolled as a student at Lafayette College in the summer at the time of the program. During the six weeks of the program, students will meet multiple times weekly as a group to discuss readings and develop their research questions, as well as attend workshops dedicated to learning digital tools including Gephi, TimelineJS, R, ArcGIS, etc. Students interested in applying should first contact Angela Perkins (perkinsa@lafayette.edu), Research & Instruction Librarian, to discuss their interests and project idea(s).

Friends of Skillman Library Fellowships
The Friends of Skillman Library Fellowships provide hands-on, semester-long learning opportunities intended to build research skills and understanding of archives, rare books, and special collections. Through sustained focus on bibliographic or archival material, the fellows work on experiential projects with original historical sources held in Skillman Library.
Special Collections & College Archives (SC&CA) Student Assistant Opportunities
Student assistants in special collections gain experience in the fields of curatorial work, public services, and technical services. Ongoing projects relate to archival management, book history, exhibition design and curation, rare materials cataloging, metadata for archival resources, and the history of the college. Tasks include processing/reprocessing manuscript collections, metadata migration and clean up, exhibition research and design, participation in reference work and answering reference questions remotely and in person, and conducting research in areas related to ongoing acquisitions.
Circulation and Interlibrary Loan Assistants
Each semester, the Lafayette College Libraries employ approximately 50 students in our Access Services department. We also hire students for Interim and Summer Sessions. Student assistants perform a variety of essential tasks helping staff in daily library operations. For more information, contact circ@lafayette.edu
Careers in Library Science Internship Program
Lafayette College Libraries participates annually in Careers in Library and Information Science (CiLIS). CiLIS is an internship that brings together undergraduates from Bryn Mawr, Swarthmore, Haverford, and Lafayette colleges to explore career possibilities in LIS and learn how the LIS profession intersects with social justice issues. Students attend a variety of sessions focused on various aspects of librarianship such as cataloging, digital scholarship, archives and special collections, and research and instruction. The paid internship provides students interested in LIS and social justice a unique opportunity to learn from practicing academic librarians and connect with other students interested in the LIS profession. Open Education Fellowships
Students are invited to apply for full Academic Year (i.e. fall and spring semester) Open Education fellowships with the Lafayette Libraries. Open Education can briefly be summarized as a move towards making educational materials (such as course textbooks) freely available and fully accessible for all students. Fellows work on projects that enhance or promote the work and values of Open Education on campus or beyond.
