The Lafayette Libraries and the Provost’s Office will again sponsor information literacy grants ($1,500) for faculty who wish to add an information literacy component to one of their upper-level classes. The goal of these grants is to encourage faculty to develop classes in which students have repeated opportunities to build information literacy skills and learn how information is created, disseminated, and organized in a discipline. To be eligible, the class must include projects in which students gather, evaluate, and use information and involve collaboration with a librarian. Faculty who are interested in applying for an information literacy grant should contact Lijuan Xu (xul@lafayette.edu). The application deadline is December 16. More information about the grants, including the previous years’ recipients, can be found here.
A brownbag in collaboration with CITLS has been scheduled for Friday, November 18, featuring three recipients. Professors Il Hyun Cho (Gov & Law), Douglas de Toledo Piza (International Affairs), and Tim Laquintano (English) will host a lunch time discussion on how they integrated information literacy into their respective courses: GOVT 419 Global Governance, IA 200 Globalization and Its Critics, and ENG 350 Reading and Writing in Screen Culture. If you are interested in learning more about their pedagogical endeavor and/or applying for an information literacy grant for Spring 2023, join us at 12:10 in the Gendebien Room of Skillman Library.
