Sarah Beck supports a multitude of campus-wide goals to increase access and usage of digitized content and experimental technologies in the Lafayette community. She acts as project manager and technical lead for all archival digitization and creation of digital surrogates for the Lafayette Digital Repository, and collaborates with campus partners in the creation of digital collections to promote curricular and co-curricular initiatives. Sarah is the primary consultant for community members wishing to integrate VR, AR, Photogrammetry, and 3D technologies into their teaching and research, providing both technical and curricular support. She is the project librarian for ZeuxisVR, a digital humanities initiative creating open educational 3D models and VR experiences of cultural heritage sites. She manages and updates technology in two labs and two imaging studios across campus; these spaces each house specialized technology for digitization, VR, 3D modeling, archival photography, and more. Sarah fosters interdisciplinary collaboration between all specializations on campus to guide decision making for digital infrastructure enhancements and technology investments.
Sarah’s expertise derives from her wide array of experiences at the intersections of art, cultural heritage, and technology. Combining skills developed from work in the photography production, digital asset management, and digital archive fields, she brings technical proficiency, creative problem solving skills, and awareness of the ethical and equitable implications of access to her projects. She is dedicated to developing professional discourse and collaboration and remains active in the archival and academic library communities, presenting at multiple conferences on her digitization and VR work.
