Library of Congress: Maps

Digital map images from the Library’s Geography & Maps Division, organized by subjects and themes, primarily of the United States. Maps range from local to national scales and include panoramic bird’s-eye view maps of many cities from the mid-19th to early 20th century.


Library of Congress: Prints and Photographs Online Catalog

Includes photographs, fine and popular prints and drawings, posters, and architectural and engineering drawings digitized and available as high resolution downloads. While international in scope, the collections are particularly rich in materials produced in, or documenting the history of, the United States.

Mapping Gothic France

Detailed, high quality photographs, maps, floorplans, and descriptions of French and English cathedrals that began construction in the 12th-13th centuries.


Marquis de Lafayette Prints Collection

Includes hundreds of digitized prints of the Marquis de Lafayette depicting his involvement in the American and French Revolutions, French politics, and his Farewell Tour of America. Many of the prints were created contemporaneous with Lafayette's life (1757-1834).


Medicine and Madison Avenue

Images of 600+ health-related advertisements printed in newspapers and magazines from the 1910s to the 1950s. Ads illustrate the variety and evolution of marketing images for a wide range of products, such as: household cleaners, vitamins, pain relievers, and diet aids. Also includes historical documents (i.e. reports, editorials, radio scripts) that relate to the creation and influence of health-related advertisements.


Metropolitan Museum of Art

Includes almost 500,000 high-resolution images from the Metropolitan Museum of Art's collection. Users can download these images for non-commercial use.


Mosfilm Online Cinema

Soviet films, with subtitles, from the archive of the Mosfilm studio in Moscow. Many are unfamiliar to western audiences.

Interactive, online mapping service from the U.S. Geological Survey. Create customized topographic maps reflecting elevation, geology, land use, natural hazards, and other features.
