WRDS

WRDS (Wharton Research Data Services) is an online research data platform that provides access to financial, accounting, regulatory, banking, economics, and marketing data. It is to be used for academic and non-commercial purposes.

Accounts (User Type)

WRDS is available to current Lafayette College faculty, staff, and students. To obtain an account, the user must have an @lafayette.edu email address. The following User type accounts are available at Lafayette:

Class: Accounts are set up by the instructor of a class and are active for no more than the length of the semester. Students must obtain a class code from their professor before registering for this type account.
Students (Masters/Undergrad): Accounts are for any Lafayette student and provide access to WRDS for the academic year.
Faculty: Accounts are available to all Lafayette faculty. Accounts are typically active for 5 years unless the faculty member leaves the college. Faculty who wish to transfer their account from their previous institution may use the Account Transfer Request Form.
PhD Students: Accounts are not available through Lafayette College.
Staff: Accounts are available for the academic year.
Research Assistant (supervised students only): Research Assistant accounts are available to students working as a Research Assistant in the summer. Please include the name of your faculty sponsor/supervisor in the registration form to avoid delays in approving your account request.
- Note, student research assistants during the school year should simply sign up for a student account. If their appointment is extended through the summer, contact the WRDS representative (WRDS@lafayette.edu) to allow summer access.
Visiting Faculty: Additional information may be requested to confirm your visiting status. Access will only be granted through your @lafayette.edu email address.

How to Register an Account

Eligible Lafayette College faculty, staff, and students may register for a WRDS account at: https://wrds-www.wharton.upenn.edu/register/

Requests are typically processed in 24-48 hours. Additional information may be requested.

NOTE: The sharing of username and password is strictly prohibited. Violating this rule will lead to the loss of your individual account and may result in loss of access for all Lafayette College users.

Class Accounts

Faculty may request a class account for use by students in a specific course. The request must include the class start and end date. Students will only have access to WRDS during that time to complete class assignments.

Summer Access to WRDS

Accounts are suspended for students during the summer. Access may be granted to students who are enrolled in on campus summer classes. Access is not granted for 0-credit courses and internships.

If you are working as a Research Assistant during the summer, you may contact the campus WRDS administrator (WRDS@lafayette.edu). Please include the name and email address of the faculty member you are working with.

Expired Accounts

If your account has expired or you are seeking to reinstate your account for the academic year, you may contact the WRDS administrator at WRDS@lafayette.edu.
