Zotero is an open-source citation management tool that lets you easily collect references, organize them, and generate bibliographies.

The Lafayette Libraries provide unlimited sitewide storage in Zotero for students, faculty, and staff.

To get started with Zotero:

Register an Account

Use your @lafayette email address to get unlimited storage. For security purposes, it is recommended that you choose a password that's separate from your Lafayette password.

Install Zotero

Install both the Zotero desktop application and a browser extension to capture and manage references. Chrome and Firefox are the recommended browsers. [The Safari browser extension is currently in beta - this install page has further instructions for Safari.]

To switch to Zotero:

Migrate to Zotero from another citation software

Zotero provides robust documentation on exporting your data from other citation softwares such as Mendeley, Refworks, or EndNote, and importing it to Zotero.

Assistance with Zotero is available from any reference librarian.
